Why the bobbin thread always show on the top?

Many sewing lovers may have come across such embarrassing situations in their sewing process. For your convenience, here are some tips for you:

The reason for this matter can be briefly summarized as an imbalance between the tension on the top and bobbin threads. There is a constant tug of war between the needle thread and bobbin thread, if the pressure ( e.g. Thread tension is the pressure that each thread experiences as it passes through an embroidery machine) exerted on the top thread is too high, or the pressure on the bobbin thread too little, the you will find your bobbin thread shows on the front of the design, and vice versa.

There are several situations you do need to CHECK YOUR MACHINE TENSIIONS WITH A TEST PROJECT BEFORE EMBROIDERYING.

Using metallic or other special thread.

Embroidering with a heavy-weight top thread or a very fine top thread.

Embroidering with a bobbin thread that is not preferred by your machine.

Bobbin work requires loosening bobbin tension.
Differences between pre-wound and and machine wound bobbins.

When you change the tension value on your machine, keep in mind that you need to start small and move bigger if this seems to be making a difference, and all the changes should be done according to the instruction of your machine manual.
However, except for the context mentioned above, things may not getting better as you adjust the tension on your machine. Under those situations, you do not need to change the tension value but do the following things instead.

  • Clean tension discs. If  there are lint or pieces of broken threadsin the tension discs in your upper thread, the upper thread tension will be significantly increased. The same is true of the Bobbin Area.
  • Check your thread spool to ensure your thread hasn’t gotten tangled or looped. Thread nets may help you in solving this problem.
  • Rule out improper threading, rethread the upper thread
  • Check your bobbins. Make sure the bobbins used are of appropriate size.
  • Ensure you’re using an appropriate needle size and type for your fabric, otherwise the holes poked in your design will be huge and then the bobbin thread coming through.
